Essential Services Grants Program
The Essential Services Grant (ESG) Program provided more than $132 million in competitive grants to eligible local government entities in communities hit hard by Sandy. The grants filled the unmet needs gap between a local government’s Sandy-generated revenue losses and the monies the local government received from private insurance and all available federal assistance programs such as FEMA Public Assistance and the FEMA Community Disaster Loan Program. These communities would not have been able to provide critical services such as public safety, public works, sanitation and education if not for the Essential Services Grants. All ESG awards have been disbursed.
