Fair to Be Held March 23 in City of Elizabeth to Help People Affected by Superstorm Sandy Access Available Housing Resources
Trenton, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced a free Housing Resource Fair will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017, in the City of Elizabeth, Union County, to provide Sandy-impacted residents with information about helpful housing resources. While applications for grant funds and housing vouchers are no longer being accepted, resources such as housing counseling, utility assistance, and housing search help are still available.
The Housing Resource Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miller-Evans-Logan Recreation Center, 161-163 First Street, Elizabeth. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with housing counselors, government agencies, community organizations, and other support services. The fair is open to Sandy-impacted residents from anywhere in New Jersey.
“People affected by Superstorm Sandy who continue to need assistance are encouraged to attend the upcoming Housing Resource Fair,” said DCA Commissioner Charles A. Richman. “Knowledgeable staff from a wide range of organizations will be present in one place to answer questions, address concerns and guide people to available resources.”
Representatives from community development corporations, affordable housing properties, supportive services organizations, non-profit groups, local government and state government will be in attendance.
Housing Counselors from the Sandy Recovery Housing Counseling Program will also be present to offer attendees free HUD-certified housing counseling services for a wide array of housing-related issues, including foreclosure prevention, mortgages, budgeting, and rental guidance.
DCA is hosting the Housing Resource Fair in partnership with the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA) and the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey. Representatives of DCA and the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey will be in attendance at the Housing Resource Fair in Elizabeth.
This is the ninth such Housing Resource Fair for Sandy-impacted residents to be held. Fairs were previously held in Atlantic City, Atlantic County; Jersey City, Hudson County; Highlands, Monmouth County; Toms River, Ocean County; Cape May Court House, Cape May County; Little Ferry, Bergen County; Sayreville, Middlesex County; and Newark, Essex County.
